Meet Emma Sears

Emma is a public service professional, parent, and community-minded leader running to serve as the York Region District School Board Trustee for Aurora and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Throughout her career in municipal government and public service, Emma has worked in leadership roles focused on governance, accountability, procurement, service delivery, and achieving value for the communities she serves. She has built her career around bringing people together, managing competing priorities, and finding practical solutions to complex public-sector challenges.

Emma also brings firsthand experience working within Ontario's largest school board. That experience gave her an understanding of the complexity of public education and the importance of strong collaboration between trustees, educators, administrators, families, and the broader community.

As a parent, Emma understands that decisions made at the school board level have a direct impact on students and families. She believes every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed in a school environment where they feel safe, supported, respected, and included.

Why Emma is Running…

Emma is running because she believes strong public education is fundamental to strong communities.

Aurora and Whitchurch-Stouffville are growing communities, and that growth brings important questions about school capacity, long-term planning, resources, student supports, and the future of education.

Emma believes trustees have a responsibility to listen to families, understand the challenges facing educators and students, ask difficult questions, and ensure that decisions are made with accountability and the long-term interests of students in mind.

Student Well-Being & School Safety

Advocating for accessible mental-health supports and positive school environments where students feel safe, connected, respected, and able to learn.

Stronger Family Engagement

Improving communication between the school board and families and creating meaningful opportunities for parents and community members to participate in discussions about their children's education.

Responsible Stewardship

Bringing practical public-sector experience to the trustee table and ensuring public resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and with students at the centre of decision-making.

Strong Governance

Supporting effective collaboration between trustees, board administration, educators, families, and the community while maintaining clear accountability for decisions.

Planning for Growth

Advocating for thoughtful long-term planning as Aurora and Whitchurch-Stouffville continue to grow, so that schools and educational resources can keep pace with the needs of the community.

A trustee should be accessible to families, willing to ask questions, prepared to examine the details, and committed to working collaboratively, even when issues are complex.
